A qualified Psychologist who is passionate about working directly with children, supporting them to flourish at school and at home.
Meet Helen
Hi, Iām Helen Hodges, the Psychologist behind Unlock Psychology. I have lived in Wakatipu for over 15 years and understand the things that make this area great, as well as the challenges it can bring.
I have always had a passion for working with children and studied psychology at the undergraduate level before completing a Masters in Educational Psychology (2 years) at Massey University.
As a parent of three small children, I very much understand the challenges of parenting. I have varied experience working within the education system in New Zealand and know how to support your child navigate through this system.
I completed my internship and Post Graduate Diploma in 2014 for the Ministry of Education, covering Queenstown, Wanaka, Cromwell and Central Otago. I then moved to South Auckland and worked as an educational psychologist for the Ministry of Education, working in the (then named) 8+ Behaviour Team. This included supporting teachers & families with challenging behaviour and low educational achievement.
I then transferred to Dunedin, spending six months there, working with both behaviour and learning challenges.
In 2016 I moved full time back to the Queenstown Lakes area and have since had the joy and the challenge of bringing up my own young family. This gives me a unique perspective in that I understand the challenges of being a parent in Queenstown, often without wider family support close by.
My aim is to provide a professional and balanced service to children, parents and educational professionals in the Wakatipu area and beyond.
I enjoy working directly with children to support and help them flourish at school and at home. I use a wide range of assessment materials and believe that best results come from collaboration and ongoing support.
Please get in contact with me if you would like to book an introductory appointment/assessment.
